Bette - who would rather kill the toy snake than smile for the camera - sends her best wishes for a Very Merry Christmas to her brothers Lloyd, Poirot, Otis, Whitby & Kayto, & her sister Gabbi. Cinzia - who loves nothing better than a photo opportunity - wishes her beautiful kids & their families a wonderful Christmas. Big hugs to Angus, Barry White, Felix Unger, Storm, Baxter, Albi, Ice, Hugo, George, Felix Felicis, Jax, Sophie & Princess Mali. Houlihan wins another Best Puppy in Show at Ballarat KC! Thank you to judges Matt Morse & Sandi Mashford. What does a girl called Fox on the Run get for a reward...? Yep. And she was most impressed.
Last week began beautifully... In Melbourne we celebrated Australia Day at a dog show & Houlihan (after a highly entertaining performance in the breed, which included aerial shenanigans, an impersonation of the Ferrari Stallion & ended with a defiant "No! I don't think I want to move at all...") was awarded Best Puppy in Group by Mr E Bajona of Canada, & went on to Best Puppy in Show! Thank you to Mr Z Kupferberg of Israel for this exciting win... In Perth her litter brother Jax was awarded Non Sporting Puppy of the Year. Big hugs to his owner & handler Victoria Parkes...
A very happy drive home... bathed out Houla & fed dogs. And Bette didn't eat. Which is alarming, because Bette is my Queen Seagull. Bette eats everything. And therein lies the problem... Bette eats everything, whether it's something she should be eating or not. Tuesday morning we go to the vet... I leave her. She looks at me horrified. "I warned you this day would come if you keep eating stupid things..." Nothing shows up on the xray, so they open her up & find a huge, cooked chicken bone in her stomach. She has to stay overnight & I can't stop thinking about her being there all by herself , worrying about all the things that could go wrong. Thankfully she made a great recovery & was home in her favourite chair on Wednesday night. By the weekend she was bright & bouncing again. And while Bette probably hasn't learnt her lesson, a very impressive vet bill has taught my husband why we treat cooked bones like radioactive waste...! Happy to be thankful... and very thankful to have things to be happy about... There are over a hundred shows every year in Victoria, the Australian state AuFait calls home. There is ONE show close to our country house (didn't plan that very well, did I...?) & it was this weekend... On Saturday morning Houlihan & I went to the Lang Lang P A & H Association show. It blew a gale...it rained sideways... & then the sun came out & Houla was awarded Best of Breed & Best Puppy in Group by Poodle specialist, Mrs Jenny Sculac ( Jenuin). After a blissful 20 minute drive home, it was wonderful to let Houla run wild on our 3 acre property... the best reward for being so good* & so patient* all day at the show.. *I confess she did disappear from the grooming table & go rogue once - thank you to the nice lady who finally caught her... and we did have a 'discussion' in the Puppy in Show lineup - what is acceptable behavior for a Terrier (ie. firing up) is not really becoming or ladylike in a Poodle...
