When I was 13, I decided our family's
pet Labrador was going to be a showdog. (He really shouldn't have
been a showdog, but that's a whole other story...) While his career
was short-lived, my affair with the sport has lasted almost 25
years.
In 1987 I was given a Standard Poodle to handle in the Junior
Showmanship State Final. And I was hooked. The character, the
intelligence, the humour, the grace and the athleticism were unlike
any other breed. For many years I assisted Lynne Aitken with her
Chatain Poodles before acquiring my first Standard in 1994, BIS Aust
Ch Chatain Hell I Can Do That. Ten years later, the first AuFait
litter was born.
The AuFait Poodles & I live in Richmond, just a few kilometres from
the city of Melbourne, along with my wonderful partner Dominic
Turner. Whilst he has little academic interest in the breed, his
help, support & insight are invaluable. Together we've made our dog
grooming salon, Going to the Dogs, a highly successful business. As
well as showing, I've always been involved in administration,
joining my first Kennel Club committee at 16. Currently I sit on one
All Breeds committee & am Treasurer of The Poodle Club of Victoria.
We believe a Standard Poodle must be as sound - both physically &
mentally - as it is beautiful. We go to great lengths to breed &
raise Poodles that will be a joy & credit to their owners, a credit
to ourselves & ultimately a credit to our beautiful breed.
